Good news for Australian film, The Sapphires is being received brilliantly at festivals around the world.
The new Australian film – The Sapphires – is being well received all around the globe. The story is based on the true tale of an Aboriginal singing group and received a 10 minute standing ovation at the Cannes film festival back in May this year. Locally, the film had one of the highest-grossing weekends for an Australian film this year but there was still doubt about its international appeal – particularly in America
This past weekend at the film’s screening in Telluride, Colorado, the movie ended with erupting applause from the audience.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film could be on its way to the Golden Globes and maybe even the academy awards, though the former – with its separate musical and comedy categories – is more likely.
